What is she using to draw this, is that a stick of charcoal? Conte? Compressed graphite?

What you say seems important. But it would have been helpful to actually see the model you are drawing.
This is UA-cam, so unfortunately not possible unless I want to get strikes and bans. It's more for guidance.
I've only been drawing for a few weeks. Should I start out with your figure drawing or gesture? I've been working with an art teacher on portraits as well.
Great video! What artists inspire you?....Lucian Freud, Auguste Rodin etc.?
I found this making so much sense and inspiring me to return to drawing with charcoal which was my first love artistically speaking. Thank you!
I'm just about to start figure drawing so this was very useful - thanks.
What a lovely line.
Siobhan. Your videos are genius.thank you
Thank you so much for the drawing 💐💐💐💐💐💐💐💐
Loved this video. You have given me a direction to go in with my life drawing. I work loose and what you said about focusing on a certain area connected with me.
So glad to hear this. Yes, often in life drawing we tend to think that we have to draw the whole figure, when using the pose to focus on one area could result in a much better drawing. If it resonates, that's great!
I mostly draw on 120 gr paper or 200 gr mix media. May say that 200 gr Mix Media paper was the thickest i ever had and best also. I draw as a hobby -pencil,ink,charcoal-. Thanks for the video
I’m lucky to draw at life drawing session a couple times a week. It has definitely changed how I approach drawing
👏👏👏👏🪻🪻🪻🪻🪻
Thanks for your wonderful videos. I recently discovered scribble drawings by Honoré Daumier and they are just mindblowing!!
Ah yes, Daumier is a perfect artist to study, famed for wonderful gesture drawings, with scribble lines!
Ese deanudo fue viendo modelo viva o de memoria?
Uso papel gris delgado con algo de porosidad en una cara. Muy económoco y puedo resaltar brillos de luz con tiza simple. Los trazos vuestros son bellos y modernos !
FOR ME, INK DRAWING IS THE BEST. I LOVE TO DRAW AND SKETCH IN INK. I NORMALLY USE MICRON PENS AND BRUSH TIP PENS. I'LL USE A BRIGHT COLOR PEN OR BRUSH FOR UNDER SKETCHES AND BLACK FOR MY DETAILS. IT'S A LOT OF FUN AND YOU CAN DO MANY TYPES OF LINE SHADING/RENDERING. THERE'S REALLY NO WRONG OR RIGHT WAY TO SKETCH WITH IT. IT'S TOTALLY UP TO YOU WHAT YOU WANT TO SEE AND WHAT YOU WANT PEOPLE TO SEE. HAVE FUN WITH IT...ENJOY!!!
Thank you for this enlightening video. I will buy and read the book right through. I am a beginner and want to avoid the angular look in so many finished charcoal drawings, even those by well known artists.
This video nicely boils down my recent experience with life drawing, having been at it for about 7 years now, going through ups and downs. In one session, a week ago I did a long study (about 2 1/2 hours) and noticed my drawing looked a bit off. Somehow I had combined a bunch of techniques together from over the years but failed to get the essence of the figure into the drawing. I asked one of the best artists in the group for advice and he said pretty much all these points and showed me a bunch of his drawings. I suppose its like most art forms, you have to learn the fundamentals and all the technical stuff then forget them! :)
Is it a charcoal stick that you are using?
Beatiful
Awesome video. Do you ever draw women?
So helpful and beautiful thank you! What type of pencil are you using? Is it graphite or conte or charcoal pencil?
This is just what I needed
Hey buddy. I have to check out your drawing prowess… again.🧑🎨♾️✍️
Great teaching
You make this look so easy thank you !
Fabulous tips here
I am working through your wonderful videos and learning so much, thank you. I am fascinated by how you constantly change your grip on the pencil to change your mark making. A video about this would be very instructive. Thanks again Siobhan.
So happy to hear this Tim, thanks for the feedback. I think mark making is so essential, and you're right its worthy of a video because it's nearly the most important aspect of a drawing practice. Only, it's hard to explain it on video, using photo reference. I'll give it a try though! I don't think about it consciously in the moment, but changing grip and using different marks is completely connected to seeing the gesture and understanding the emphasis in the particular pose, and that really comes with practice, but there are ways to get there fast, if you practice gesture a lot. Hope this helps, let me know if you have any other questions! :)
Arte you seeing a model or photograf?
Nearly all the videos are drawing with a photo reference. I wrote an article about the difference between drawing with a model and with a photo if you are interested : open.substack.com/pub/drawinglife/p/the-gift-of-drawing-from-life?r=de88b&
I can't save the video to watch it later 😢
Oh no, you mean download it? Is there some setting I need to do?

Well done Siobhan! As a passionate horse rider and watercolourist I am aware of the challenges in horse sketching. I find you sketched some very credible and fresh poses. I have often tried to draw my horse from life but, as you said, horses keep moving. Mine came along to see what I was doing from close. I often had the sensation that he tended to turn back when I was trying to draw him, so I usually come back with sketches from behind while grazing. I think I would need to spend hours before I can see him head up and looking at me😂
Thanks so much for this video. As a complete beginner, this is exactly the approach I am trying to follow - drawing what I see without the use of a template.
Thanks Tim, love to hear this. A lot of people will tell you otherwise, but I believe it's way more important to learn how to draw naturally first and then move into more rigorous, template or structure approach. It's ALL about line confidence - this is the starting point most beginners miss completely. if you learn to control your line naturally and intuitively you will have way more success as you move to more careful studies. Thanks for watching!!
I am a total beginner but I love using charcoal. I have bought some fixative based on casein as I don't like the smell of other types. I will certainly test well before I fix my next masterpiece! Thank you for all your wonderful videos; they are inspiring.
🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌
THANKS FOR TEACHING!
wate ! I just have discovered that in this vdo u are working with both hands 😱
Haha! yes.... whenever i get stuck I switch hands because non-dominant hand , even though it has less control, i find that it draws more accurately. It only comes into play very seldom, but can be helpful. Thank you so much for watching!! ❤
Hi Momo-chan! 😍
